I grew up in Salinas, CA "Home of the California Rodeo" way back when. I have always loved horses and my first true love was a Shetland Pony named Cindy--a black coated she-devil that no one else wanted to ride, so I didn't have to share her which suited me just fine. I think it was that first critical relationship with Cindy that cemented my bond to mares--those most tempestuous of steeds of which I have two: Addie and Dharma both Registered Half-Arabs. Family-wise, I am a single mom with two great kids--son Colton "Colt" circa 1993, and daughter Savanna circa 1995. Neither of them like horses, so it's pretty hard to believe they're actually my children but since they keep following me around begging for food and money, I guess it's true. It's hard to say what I love most about drill because there is so much to love. I certainly love the thrill of riding with the large group and constantly striving to improve my abilities and relationship with my horse, but on top of that I'd have to add that the camaraderie of the team itself is wildly compelling. A more dedicated coach and diverse group of women you won't find--literally! And yet, it is through our shared love of horses and the sport of drill that we are able to come together, have a meeting of the minds and spirit, temper our competitive egos, and develop the most profound friendships ever. What could be better than that? My favorite drill maneuver: I think it's when we have two half-team sweeps on opposite sides of the arena rounding together and driving into a single company front. It's exhilarating! "As always... "Hope Springs Eternal" |
