Horse: Godmother, auntie and
horse-sitter to Maureen’s wonderful horse, Tucker.
Family:
Wayne, my husband of 31 years, loves golf even more then I love drill. My
son, Ryan, lives in Astoria, Oregon and
teaches band and choir at Ilwaco High School.
My daughter, Kelly, lives in Las Vegas and is a make-up artist for MAC, designing makeup
for performers and Las Vegas
shows.
Horse History: I started
riding horses late in life when I bought a horse for my teenage daughter
from a woman who would become my very closest friend. (Now I ask
you . . . what are the odds of that?) My daughter and I shared
that little quarter horse for several years, and when my daughter moved
on I stuck with it. I’m sharing a horse again, now, with that very
same best friend and drill mate, Maureen, while my new young horse
undergoes some training to get ready for next year. Tucker is an
exceptional horse and his temperament is a perfect match for me.
My new horse will have some large horseshoes to fill.
Drill History: I rode
for two years with High Valley Riders out of Maple Valley in their struggling infancy in the
late 90’s. I was unable to make the time commitment in those days, but
when I heard the team had merged with Rhythm and Reins and moved
practices closer to me, I decided to give it another go.
Why I love drill: I love
working and playing with a really remarkable group of women whom I
respect and enjoy. I am inspired by Kurt Browning, our fabulous
coach, to keep improving my riding skills and rising to the challenge of
drill.
Motto: No hour was ever
wasted that was spent on the back of a horse.
Slogan: Having lost my
reputation years ago, I find that I don’t miss it.
Advice to younger ladies: Marry for
money and have love affairs, because you can’t marry for love and have
money affairs.
